Managing notification preferences
Last updated: June 29, 2026
Notifications overview
The platform keeps you informed about activity that matters to your learning — new course assignments, approaching deadlines, instructor feedback, and announcements. Notifications are delivered in two ways:
- In-app alerts — appear as a numbered badge on the bell icon in the top navigation bar. Click the bell to see a list of recent alerts and mark them as read.
- Email notifications — sent to the email address linked to your account. These are useful for staying informed even when you are not actively logged in to the platform.
You can enable or disable each notification type independently for both channels, giving you precise control over what you are notified about and how.
Types of notifications
- Course assignments — triggered when an administrator assigns a new course to you. Sent as soon as the assignment is made.
- Deadline reminders — sent a configurable number of days before a course's required completion date. Helps you avoid last-minute rushes.
- Grading completed — notifies you when an instructor has finished reviewing a quiz or assignment you submitted, including a link to view your grade and any feedback.
- Announcements — course-level messages posted by your instructor inside a course you are enrolled in, such as schedule changes or supplementary material.
- Certificate ready — sent when you have met all completion requirements and your certificate has been generated.
How to update your notification preferences
- Click your avatar or initials in the top-right corner and select Profile Settings.
- Click the Notifications tab.
- You will see a table of notification types, each with a toggle for In-app and a toggle for Email. Turn each toggle on or off according to your preference.
- Click Save Preferences when you are finished. Changes take effect immediately for in-app alerts and within a few minutes for email notifications.
Tips for managing notification volume
- If you find email notifications disruptive, try keeping in-app alerts on but disabling the email equivalents — you will still see the badge on the bell icon when you log in.
- Deadline reminder emails are especially worth keeping enabled if you have multiple courses running simultaneously with different due dates.
- If your inbox receives automated emails from the platform that you did not expect, check this settings page — a previous user of the account may have enabled all email notifications.
- Some organizations configure mandatory notifications that you cannot turn off. If a toggle is grayed out, it has been locked by your administrator.
For help with other account settings, see the other articles in the Account & Settings category, or contact your platform administrator.
